Privacy policy

This describes what Sly Poker (slypoker.com) actually collects today — not a wish list of pixels we might add later. If that changes, we will update this page.

Who we are

Sly Poker is an informational website: poker lessons, a five-card practice toy, a daily quiz spot, headlines copied from other publications’ RSS feeds, and a directory of licensed U.S. poker rooms. We are not a casino, card room, or licensed gambling operator. Contact: info@slypoker.com.

Who this site is for

The site is intended for adults 21 or older. It is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (COPPA) or from anyone we know to be under 21. If you believe a minor has submitted information, email us and we will delete what we can.

What we collect

Information you do not have to give us

We do not require an account, email, or payment to use the site.

On your device (not sent to us)

  • Lesson progress and quiz scores are stored in your browser under the key slypoker_progress using localStorage. That data stays on your device unless you clear site data. We do not currently transmit it to our servers.
  • The daily spot and dealt hands are generated in your browser. They are not a profile of you.

On our servers

  • Technical logs that hosting and the application may record when you load a page or call an API: IP address, date and time, URL, referrer, user agent, and approximate response status. We use the IP address on the news endpoint to rate-limit abuse (in-memory, short window). Logs are for security, debugging, and keeping the site up — not for advertising.
  • We do not currently run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, PostHog, advertising SDKs, or similar third-party trackers on this site.

If you email us

If you write to info@slypoker.com, we receive whatever you put in that message (name, email address, contents) and keep it long enough to reply and handle the request.

Cookies and similar tech

We do not set advertising or analytics cookies. The site may use strictly necessary technical cookies or storage that the hosting platform or Next.js needs to serve pages (for example session or load-balancing cookies). Lesson progress uses localStorage, not a tracking cookie.

Because we are not using non-essential tracking cookies today, we do not show a “accept marketing cookies” banner. If we add analytics or ads later, we will update this policy and, where required, ask before non-essential cookies run.

Browser “Do Not Track” signals: we do not inject ad trackers, so there is little extra for DNT to switch off. We do not currently alter logging based on DNT.

Third parties you may leave us for

Headlines link out to PokerNews and Card Player. Room listings can open Google Maps. Responsible-play links go to problem- gambling organizations. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We do not control what they collect after you click away.

Our host (and any CDN or DNS in front of the site) will process connection data to deliver pages. That processing is their infrastructure, not a Sly Poker marketing profile.

How we use information

  • Run and secure the website (including rate limits and abuse prevention).
  • Remember lesson progress on your device, if you use lessons.
  • Reply if you contact us.
  • Comply with law if we are legally required to retain or disclose logs.

We do not sell lists. We do not run targeted ads on this site today.

Legal bases (EEA / UK GDPR)

If GDPR or UK GDPR applies to your visit:

  • Legitimate interests: keeping the site up, preventing scraping and denial-of-service, basic server logs.
  • Contract / steps at your request: answering email you send us.
  • Consent: not used for ads, because we do not run ad trackers now.
  • Legal obligation: if a lawful request requires us to keep or produce records.

You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may complain to your local data protection authority. Email info@slypoker.com to exercise rights. We will need enough information to find any data that actually exists — for anonymous browsing, that may be little or nothing beyond short-lived logs.

California and other U.S. state privacy laws

Under the CCPA/CPRA and similar U.S. state laws, “sale” and “sharing” of personal information have specific meanings (including some advertising disclosures). We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

You may request access, deletion, or correction of personal information we hold, and you may use an authorized agent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising those rights. To submit a request: email info@slypoker.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We will verify the request to the extent the data lets us (email you used, if any). We do not use a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” cookie opt-out today because we are not selling or sharing.

How long we keep it

  • localStorage progress: until you clear it or your browser does.
  • Server logs: only as long as needed for security and operations, then rotated by the host’s defaults unless we must keep them longer for an investigation or legal hold.
  • Email: as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up.

Security and international processing

No website is perfectly secure. We use HTTPS and ordinary hosting protections. Data may be processed in the United States or wherever our host runs servers. If you visit from the EEA or UK, that is an international transfer of any personal data that is processed (typically technical logs).

Changes

We will change this policy when our practices change. The “last updated” date at the top is the record. Material changes will be posted here.
